Terry’s from Texas, lives in Marseille and he’s clocking in at 62 by now. He’s coming to see us with his brand new album «Bound, Chained, Fettered». If the themes of his now second to last «The Long Draw« were timelessness, discernment, anger and still optimism, this current work is a sincere and unembellished lecture on life as far as he knows it, has experienced it in a way only he can tell about it. It’s a thoughtful work that hears like an insight into and a summary of many an existence: «The fragile ties that bind, the heavy chains that hold us in place. I think this record is much more intimate and emotionally engaging than my previous album The Long Draw. Before I was the spectator, now I’m the character.» More than 30 initial songs were whittled down in a relentless process of rewrite, rewrite, rewrite. Agonizing as that may seem, nothing less would do.» In a world that’s so heavily flooded with sounds and songs, an album has to justify its existence.» His new work does that and more, it’s sparse, pensive and elegant and it’s a bullseye.
