oh what a night...
Messer Chups (RUS)
Kak dela?! That's Russian for what's up?! and even if you don't know yet you will in a sec: Visiting us from St.Petersburg, the cradle of Russian culture and creativity then and now, are fusionists Messer Chups.
Mere words can't do justice to what's expecting you so please have a look at some of their eerily beautiful and outrageous videos on YouTube, like «Hyena Safari» and «For Everyone Over 30» (hey, there's hope...) or listen to the cd «Bermuda 66» (2010) and you'll have no doubt as to where this storm's blowing from.
It should be explained here for you Russophiles that MC is a spinoff or a sidekick if you will, to the duo 'Messer fuer Frau Mueller' («The first fix of Felix the  Cat» is one of their songs). The group's built around guitarist Oleg Gitarkin, and a guitar king he is. The bass is worked by Zombie Girl, added are various drummers and lady musicians like theremin virtuosos Annette Schneider, Barbara Buchholz and the world famous Lydia Kavina. She's the granddaughter of Leon Theremin, the inventor in 1928 of this predecessor to the synthesizer and originator of an ongoing sound revolution and it's basically played without any hand contact to it. Rather, two antennas sense the musicians hand movements and send electric signals to an amp and on to the speaker. A hand job this isn't; the result is cutting-edge fusion and avant-guard music like the incredible «Surf Horror Inferno Bugi» (Boogie, we presume). Moreover, their music's foundation is built on surf drums, guitar solos, jazz samples, East European cartoon soundtracks and verbal and visual snippets from American B-movies (just check their cd covers). There are gems in their repertory like «Twin Peaks Twist» and someone even called them, horror and more horror, the «Addams Family of the Russian electronic scene».
You might remember the deliciously sordid and innocently morbid movies starring Boris Karloff. Now you're getting the idea. It will be a musically exceptional, sexy, irreverent and even witty high camp night that will make our island vibrate with the macabre and leave you zombies shudder with delight.
