Pierre Omer's Swing Revue
«Willkommen! A Bienvenue! Welcome im cabaret, au cabaret, to cabaret! Leave your troubles outside! In here life is beautiful! The girls are beautiful! Even the orchestra is beautiful!» (from «Cabaret»)

Freunde! Amies! Friends! Pierre Omer’s Swing Revue is blowing into town! You’re in for some Charlie Shavers trumpet! Jimmy Blanton bass! Louie Bellson drums! Django Reinhardt guitar, Fats Waller piano and Cab Calloway jivey voice! Syncopated into the inimitable style of tonight’s combo with American blues, rock, folk and European roots sounds and references to Nick Cave, The Gun Club and the dark, salacious ways of The Dead Brothers!

Born in London to Indian-Swiss parents and now living in Geneva, Pierre Omer was co-founder of that infamous group which called itself a «funeral band». Currently, it’s the deliciously trashy Swing Revue and his expression of his love for American swing from Harlem to New Orleans. It’s the latest of his many band and solo projects to date, next to composing for film and stage. Three of the hepcats with him on their current album «Swing Cremona» (2016, 12 songs, avail. on Voodoo Records, vinyl and cd) go back with him to sorely missed The Dead Brothers and next to showboat Pierre on guitar and vocals you have Christoph Gantert on trumpet and vocals, Jean-Philippe Geiser on doublebass and Julian Israelin on drums and percussion, the sum of which makes for a peppery dancing mix. The selection of cover songs and original compositions tell the story: Louis Armstrong’s «Old Man Mose», Irving Berlin’s «Russian Lullaby», Ellington’s «Lotus Blossom», Charlie Shavers’ «Undecided» and She Rocola’s «International Man Of Mistery» in an all vocal version. Standouts also are Pierre’s own creations «Show Me Some Love», «Cremona» and «Sophie» which all dovetail nicely into this electrifying selection.

The band’s performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Cirque Electrique. Tonight in a much more intimate cabaret-like setting, they’ll be turning our house into a hot house of wild and crazy rhythms.

Pierre Omer’s Swing Revue, live at El Lokal. »What good is sitting alone in your room? Come hear the music play. Life is a cabaret old chum, come to the cabaret…»
