Naked in English Class are Olifr M. Guz (Aeronauten) and Taranja Wu (Ruby Amp). He lives in a cave, she in a coffin, hopefully, next to him (all of which is pending verification) and how they got their name isn't known but it gets an A for «memorable». Their all-out assault on what constitutes pop comes with a shiny new coat and a twinkling eye and they call it electro pop. Electrifying indeed, it’s like ABBA meets the B-52’s for a round of mesmerizing vocal harmonizing plus a round of pogo dancing. Further lifting their spirit and yours as well, Olifr’s happy motoring on a variety of instruments from air guitar to buzzsaw guitar and meanwhile, Taranja beats the big drum in such way that it would easily ride above the noise in a crowded New York subway station at rush hour. In the YouTube video for the song «Long Tall Shorty» (highly recommended) from their previous album «Othering», she expertly punches Olifr in the kisser just to set him up to what’s up.
They’re a very fine live band and in addition, they’ve come up with their 2018 album titled «Selfing» (cd & vinyl with a nice graphic cover). The duo produced and recorded it themselves for icarusrecords and you should get it unless you want to get punched. ‘Cause you see the themes are manslaughter, murder, rockets and life in the stone age and what’s more some of their work is theirs and therefore destined for instant classic status. Songs like «Psycho», «Pogo Dancing», «I Can’t Find Pleasure», «The Wu Experience» and «Throw That Beat In The Garbage Can» make it clear Sony & Cher they’re not but the White Stripes (with a smile) are closer.
