Micah was born in ’81 and into the cradle of a bit of a restrictive Fundamental Christian family. There was music in the house but it came from John Denver and Neil Diamond off the family turntable. But the kid was into The Cure and Sonic Youth. He rebelled early on and picking up the guitar helped with the small town blues but what the situation eventually got him was a nice little drug habit and a home all by himself in the street. It also got him an education forever etched into his songs.
His debut album was «Micah P. Henson and the Gospel of Progress» (2004) which he recorded with The Earlies. The critics drooled over it. (Prior to that a demo titled «The Baby and the Satellite» made the rounds around 2000 and it raised eyebrows at Rough Trade Records). He had cleaned himself up a couple of years before he got his first record contract in 2003, saved up some money and enrolled in college. «Got away from some of the shady woman» he stated later on. Subsequent Albums like the 2006 «MPH and The Opera Circuit», «MPH and The Red Empire Orchestra» (2008) and «MPH and The Pioneer Saboteurs» from 2010 indicated better female influence. Significantly, it was around that time also when he made the acquaintance of John Mark Lapham, a later member of The Earlies. 2014 was the year he performed here with his latest work «MPH and The Nothing». But before that in 2011 life threw him another curve ball. Micah barely survived a car accident while touring in Spain. He got the use of both of his arms back but he now needs a cane to walk.
However prior to that in 2007 the pendulum had swung in his favor when he proposed to Ashley Bryn Gregory after a concert in London. She said «yep» and the two now have a son together. Looks like our favorite little redneck deep from the heart of Texas’s found himself a situation he finally could live with.
