To be sure, for years, Hendrix Ackle and Richard Cousins have been a fixture on the island so many Mondays, they practically own the day of the moon here forever.
Some two decades ago, Hendrix made a splash with his organ and piano play at the venerable Albani here in Zurich and Richard, no slouch himself, was then a founding member and bass player for the legendary Robert Cray Band. The twain did meet, the rest is history, they write and play their pungent stuff together in perfect harmony. While their first album «For Right Now» wrinkled at least a nose or two in 1998, it prepared us for the rancid «Hendrix/Cousins» two years later. The way things perspired from then on was that the members of their band kept changing, things became tricky for a while and they hired on with Philipp Fankhauser for a stretch. Afterwards, Richard Cousins ate some sweet and sour humble pie and went back with Robert Cray but later the two re-united, pumped up and ready to go and lo and behold, new and flavorful songs drifted once again out of that hot Swiss-American kitchen. This time coming around here, they’ve added Peter Haas on drums and on guitar it’s Marco Figini and the band will pepper you with a mix of the classic and the new, piping hot James Brown and spicy Doctor John and other side dishes you might recognise.
It all reeks of a mighty fine night. Smell the roses, stop by and throw these guys a lifeline. It’s all going to be cooking in our blazing hot kitchen down by the river, near the fragrant Mississihl. And remember, they’re not dead. They just smell funny.
