His name’s Julian Pollina, he lives in Zurich but with a wishful eye towards the big pie. Faber is his current project that’s musically in the vicinity of folkcountry blues, but stylistically all his own. It’s mostly just him now and his acoustic guitar. His lyrics are about subjects and themes that are part of us but that we’d rather keep away from us. Witty, acerbic, dreamy, romantic or mean, his words are about unconditional love, hah! and other human follies and dreams.
Astonishing, ripe stuff coming from this 20 year old musical poet but his skill didn’t just come out of nowhere. After Babyflipper and Summitt, he mixed it up, laid down the law and went solo, duo or band, depending. You could hear him at coffee shops, clubs, discos, dives, grocery stores, birthdays and the occasional wedding. To keep things off balance and unexpected, he’s known to resort to former bandmembers when he feels he needs more fire power.
We don’t know whether the name of his current project is a chapeau to Max Frisch, the greatest writer the city of Zurich has ever given birth to. What we do know is that there is going to be a pretty good young musician here with that sharp pen that will write all over you tonight.
