Intoxicated Man
Monday, 06.10.2014, 20:20
oh what a night...
Mick Harvey
+ Moran (AUS / FR)
He’s been in our parts before with Birthday Party, a band that also included none other than Nick Cave. It was November 9 anno 1981, at the venerable porno Cinema Walche and the hardcore fans that showed up might even rememember that night, together with some enlightened t&a fans.
After turning over the next page, Mick stayed with Nick until 2009 as an influential member of that baddest band, The Bad Seeds. He’s a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist best known for his powerful thunder-&-lightening approach to playing the guitar, at one point he even switched to the drums for awhile and he’s not an unwritten sheet as a producer either. His composition «Out of Time Man» can be heard on the AMC series «Breaking Bad» as well as  numerous contributions to additional films. Even more important was his musical and artistic presence on PJ Harvey’s seminal «Let England Shake» (2011), which he also produced. 2013 was it when «Four (Acts Of Love)» came out under his name and was followed by this years issuing of recordings of Serge Gainsborough songs translated into English, which first came out as «Intoxicated Man» in 1995 and «Pink Elephant» in 1997, now with two new tracks added.

This artist is a living legend in a select line of giants that have made it up onto our boards. And he promises «You don’t just start doing shit versions of songs because you can’t be bothered and it’s not worth it anyway.»

Does that mean we’re safe from another rendition of «Je T’aime…Moi Non Plus» or can real genius still get some unexpected mileage out of this cuddle classic?
