No doubt, all four lady members sing in sensational tones but that doesn't keep Shana Cleveland from playing the guitar, Marian Li Pino the drums, Abbey Blackwell the bass and Alice Sandahl from fleetfingering the keyboard. Started in 2012 by their songwriter Shana, they were the darlings of the recent festival circuit and it's their twangy surf guitar sound and their light-as-a-feather singing that created waves. «Their twang's the thang» gushed one fan while another was equally direct but unabashedly smitten: «I've got a crush on Marian the drummer». Whereas Der Spiegel didn't want to be left behind, and dryly and very correctly, described Abby as «cute».
And with their LP «It's Alive» and the 2013 debut «Damp Face», they'll get you to some other damp parts besides the face most other bands can't even attempt to reach. Aside from their stage presence, it's their dreamy music that will engulf, caress and wash over you in a powerful cadence of waves coming straight from the cobaltblue Pacific, where this sound was first born. It's surf rock, Doo Wop and lo-fi-retro-rockabilly all blending together and performed by a cute, uh-hu, real chick power quartet. It's a sound that's rarely heard this side of the pond. «Sure As Spring» is another song you'll like - it sure is spring by you by now, ain't it? So surf by and see the blinding light of La Luz on the one stage that's forever illuminating the globe.
