oh what a night...
Willard Grant Conspiracy (USA)
They're revered as an institution but simply call themselves an Americana Garage Folk Band and they're plowing onto our island just in time for early winter, so it seems... Founded in Boston in 1995 by Robert Fisher, the band now resides in California when they're not on the road and conspiring to take over the musical world.
And we're very happy to be part of this particular conspiracy: Their music compels with great songwriting, features a towering voice that's been compared to John Cale and Johnny Cash and excels with harmonious togetherness. Off and on and over time through their different personnel, they've been closely connected to the great Walkabouts. And it's been said their work invokes the humanity of a John Steinbeck in it's writing and that their sound flashes images like those by Ansel Adams.

The whole of it is best expressed in their newest «Ghost Republic», which was preceded by» «Paper Covers Stone» (2009) and «Pilgrim Road» (2008) and in it and rising from it, you get to hear songs you won't forget, songs that tell about obsolete cities and forgotten people and forlorn life in the forlorn desert. The pieces on this cd were composed and recorded by Robert Fisher and Michael Curry, who's violin's the perfect sonic counterpoint to RF's voice. «Ghost Republic» the book will be published by Ampersand and coming soon will be a film also, to be viewed on your favourite media site.

Granted, as mentioned before, they've experienced changes but as most changes go, they've been synonymous with constant renewal. What always remained is their unique and individual artistic energy and skill that's been forever conspiring to create great music: Dignified, delectable, driven and definitely delirious
