oh what a night...
Madagascar All Stars (MG)
88 million years ago, Madagascar broke away from the supercontinent Gondwana (and India) and pushed itself across the deep blue Indian Ocean and to the Southeast of Africa where it has decided to be located now. What a way to gain independence and what's more, this wondrous island might have already taken the roots of some great music to come along with it.

It's a great pleasure to introduce to you the Madagascar Allstars, and especially the great Valiha virtuoso Justin Vali (Justin Vali  Trio, Ny Malagasy Orkestra, Peter Gabriel). Because and again, he's gracing our own island and its own cultural independence.

And this time around he's joined forces with the Madagascan Allstars, namely Regis Gizavo (I Muvrini, Mano Solo, Cesaria Evora, Christophe Mae), Marius Fenoamby (Fenoamby), Erick Manana (Lolo sy ny Tariny, Feo Gasy, Graeme Allwright) and Dama Mahaleo (Mahaleo). Each one of these great musicians is a bright shining star of his own and each one brings to the party a glorious mix of a rich and fertile musical tradition: African, Arabic, Indian, Oceania and Europe. It's all an harmonious amalgam of traditional, exotic and trance-inducing sounds pushed even higher with contemporary influences and at the same time remains full of magic and irrepressable Malagasy joie de vivre. Let's dance the wild Bal Poussiere  together and when the dust has settled, let's suspend reality awhile longer and remind ourselves of this ethereal and mystical performance we were just privileged to be a part of. And let's send the Allstars off with 'mandrapihaona!' ('See you later alligator' in Malagasy).
