No matter whether you were a believer in it or not, it's a message that has justifiedly gained traction, and not just this side of the pond.
But he's a lover not a hater, just give a listen to when he plays to his lifelong love for America's most beautiful city, San Francisco. He settled there for what has already been 30 years or so, he got his heart crashed there and promptly reconfigured, we hope, and deeply loves this everchanging Pacific metropolis' vitality and creativity, did then, does today. Among many a reminiscence he fondly recalls the insider club and showcase place Temple Beautiful, which at the time became his launching pad (Perhaps for several reasons - just the name must have been quite a lure for the honeys sliding in and out of there).
Some poor souls are condemned to live by their memories, good and bad, but Charlie turned his into his latest masterpiece. There, he remembered and honored that joint long extinguished by time and its denizens with "Temple Beautiful". The album has 12 tracks, it's been written up as "his most concise and focussed work in years...and it's loaded with his garroulos gutwrenching guitar licks." For it, he's penned tunes like "Museum Of Broken Hearts", "Willy Mays Is Up At Bat", "I Felt Like Jesus" and "Castro Halloween" but the entire album really is an ode of joy to and declaration of love for his city, comparable perhaps only to Lou Reed's "New York". And he got it all completed with a stint by the illustrious Roy A. Loney of the legendary Flamin' Groovies.
Now this all-time great will come roaring back to our island to rock our temple deep to its swampy foundation and to gutwrench your gut with the white heat licks of his ferocious Fender guitar. Gut.
